Eze Igbo Ghana Dispels False Reports on Yam Festival Date

The leader of the Igbo community in Ghana, Eze Dr. Amb. Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, has cautioned the public against a misleading publication circulating on social media, claiming that the postponed Igbo Yam Festival will still be held as originally scheduled.
In a statement issued on Friday, Eze Ihenetu described the reports as “false, misleading, and intended to cause unnecessary tension,” emphasizing that the festival remains postponed until further notice.
“As announced earlier on all my official platforms, the festival was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our immediate control. That statement still stands, and no new date has yet been communicated,” he clarified.
According to him, the viral invitation currently making rounds online was an old flyer that was released over three months ago, long before the decision to postpone. He expressed disappointment that some individuals were deliberately recycling outdated material to “create confusion and mayhem.”
The Igbo leader further urged members of the community and the general public to ignore such unauthorized publications and rely only on updates from his official channels.
“Such acts not only disrespect the office of the Eze Igbo Ghana but also disregard the peace and unity we are all working to protect,” he stated.
Eze Ihenetu reassured the community of his commitment to safeguarding unity and promoting cultural heritage in Ghana. “The Igbo Yam Festival belongs to all of us. I remain committed to ensuring the respect of our host nation and its people,” he added.
He thanking Ndi Igbo in Ghana and their friends for their patience, understanding, and continued support, while affirming that the festival would be celebrated “with dignity, peace, and unity when the time is right.”
