Residents of Canada Estate in Amamorley Cry Out Over Rising Robbery Attacks, Water Shortage

Residents of Canada Estate at Amamorley in the Ga North Municipality are raising alarm over a surge in violent robbery attacks and a worsening water crisis that they say is making life increasingly difficult for people in the community.

According to residents, armed robbers have been terrorising the area for the past four months, often striking at dawn and targeting market women travelling to town to begin their daily business. Residents said several victims have been attacked and injured during the incidents. In one recent case, the Secretary of the Canada Landlords Association, Madam Harriett Amponsah, was reportedly attacked and robbed of her bag. In another disturbing incident, a woman heading to the market around 4:00 a.m. allegedly had one of her fingers chopped off by robbers who made away with her belongings.

Residents say beyond the growing insecurity, the community is also battling severe water shortages. The Canada Landlords Association has reportedly written to the Ghana Water Company Limited over the persistent water problem and is awaiting a response. Community members are now calling on security agencies and relevant authorities to urgently intervene to restore safety and provide reliable access to water.
