The Ghana AIDS Commission is urging the public to get tested for the HIV virus because contracting it in itself is not a death sentence as people perceive.
“People don’t want to test because sometimes they feel HIV is still a death sentence, it is not”, Madam Olivia Graham the Technical Coordinator of Ghana AIDS Commission has said.
According to her, “Once you get tested and find that you have the virus, you would be put on the medicine antiretroviral and it is for life. Now it is one tablet a day”.
Explaining further to DJ Reuben on Luv FM in an interview monitored by africanewsarena.com, Madam Olivia Graham the Technical Coordinator of Ghana AIDS Commission revealed that, the HIIV virus can live with you for up to 15 years before it begins to manifest, hence knowing status earlier make it better to live a healthy life.
“For some people it takes about two years for it to graduate to AIDS, some 5 years, some 10 years and some 15 years. So if you test now and you are put on the medicine, then you will look like the way you are looking now, still healthy”. She added
