The Trader Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG) has expressed strong support for the recently passed Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) law, urging President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo to swiftly assent to the legislation.
TAGG’s call comes in response to some stakeholders’ requests for the President to withhold his approval.
In a statement released today, TAGG voiced surprise at the opposition, highlighting that the GSA has been actively engaging with stakeholders since the law’s passage.
The organization emphasized that these consultations aim to ensure that the new law effectively supports Ghana’s position as a competitive trading hub.
TAGG believes that the Legislative Instrument (L.I.), which will operationalize the law, will reflect the concerns of the business community and is confident that the GSA is committed to addressing these issues.
TAGG stressed that the law serves the broader interests of the shipping and logistics sector and cautioned that efforts to delay its implementation could benefit only a select few, potentially to the detriment of the wider trading community.
The group encouraged any stakeholders with reservations to participate in ongoing discussions with the GSA rather than obstruct the law’s progress.
The statement concluded with a call to the general trading public, assuring them that the new law would bring substantial benefits to shippers and the broader commercial shipping industry.
TAGG urged the President to give his approval to the law, underscoring its importance in advancing Ghana’s role on the global trading stage.
