There is a saying in our local parlance paraphrased thus: A person who is climbing up a good tree is the one who needs a push. l strongly believe also in that maxim, and it is also the stark truth that when partisan Politics are meddled with economic affairs of a nation, the nation suffers economic stagnation. Truly, that nation will never experience economic growth and development. That is one prominent reason Ghana is still wallowing in the mud of economic mess. l believe the former president of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama holds that philosophy in high esteem. His posture and utterances during NDC’s recent campaign tour at Ada speaks volumes of that.
H.E. John Dramani Mahama is minded of the interest of Ada and Ghanaians in general unlike Divine Agorhom, the Npp Greater Accra Regional Chairman and Mr. Dodzi Numekevor, the Npp Parliamentary Candidate of Sege who are going round in circles all over the place and wildly stabbing the back of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and rubbishing government’s tallest support for Electrochem, the largest salt mining company in Africa. Clearly, H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s extempore campaign speech was in full support of the good work of Electrochem Ghana Limited is doing through the able leadership of its owner, Dr. Daniel Nii Nshia McKorley, aka McDAN who happens to be the chief of development for Ada. He said categorically that when he returned to office as the president of Ghana, he would continue with the infrastructural development of Ada, a project which he commenced when he was in office.
Seeing Ada as an economic hub of the country because of the enormous salt mining concessions, he promised to improve upon the road infrastructure which would serve as a catalyst for more businesses and investments in Ada to boom. That position of the former president undoubtedly supports one of Electrochem’s initiatives which was to ensure that major and vital roads in Ada be repaired and made easily motorable, a CSR initiative that is uncommon with most business organisations: that is, meeting the need of the society first before profit.
The former president of the Republic of Ghana also mentioned the fact that when the roads are good, it will boost tourism businesses in Ada. Of course, that also supports McDan’s vision of making Ada a tourist attraction area by his constructing of Sege Multi Sports Complex: a sports complex with many football pitches, pitches for other sporting activities, and many other sports amenities, as well as many service and business operations such, banks, post office, shopping malls, etc. Gladly speaking, the project is already in operation.
Last and not least, H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s position on job creation, in fact, sees eye to eye with what McDan is already doing, and poised to doing more. As we speak now, Electrochem has employed approximately 3,000 youths, most of whom are within the enclave of Ada. Job creation is McDan’s heartbeat, hence the reason of running many businesses. Any person who has the edge to creating jobs is a philanthropist.
Therefore, it is important we all encourage local investors like McDAN regardless of their political affiliation.
