Afenyo-Markin’s Intent Is To Run UEW Down – Alhassan Bawa
A member of the Academic Board of the University of Education, Winneba, Alhassan Salifu Bawa, has expressd worry at attempts being employed by Afenyo-Markin to bring the University that has student population of about 69500 down and the whole country is keeping quiet.
He prayed that Allah gives Ghanaian leaders the insight to sit up and call Afenyo-Markin to order and save the University.
Alhassan Salifu Bawa was reacting to some claims that he dared the National Security Minister to arrest him rather and not modernghana editors.
He however apologised to the National Security Minister.
According to him, he did not make such call on the National Security, and explained that he made some statements to the arrest of modernghana editors when news about their arrest was initially linked to some Articles he authored critical of Afenyo-Markin, and which were published by modernghana.
Alhassan Salifu Bawa also pointed out that he only made statements with regards to some contradictory information from the Ministry of National Security regarding the disturbances at UEW.
He said on May 3, 2019 a report from the National Security Ministry indicted Afenyo-Markin for interfering in the administration of the University which resulted in the disturbances leading to the closure of the University on March 14, 2029
According to him, that report was not made public.
He indicated that, another letter was issued by the same National Security Ministry on June 7, 2019, this time indicating him (Alhassan Salifu Bawa) and some other persons for being responsible for the disturbances in Efutu.
“I don’t have any problem with him. But the truth must be told at all times, this same National Security Minister wrote a letter or a report dated 3rd May that made it clear that Afenyo-Markin is the brain behind the University of Education, Winneba. Then this same Minister just a month after is saying that I’m the one responsible for the disturbances.”
“This I found contradictory. In one breadth the Ministry has I di Ted Afenyo-Markin for the EUW disturbances and in another breadth, the same Ministry accused me and other person s for the disturbances,” he said.
He noted that his article only pointed out the contradictions “When I published my first article, nobody disputed that,” he said.
Also commenting on a purported letter from the Zongo Chief to the National Security distancing himself from his articles and calling on the National Security to look into the matter, Alhassan Salifu Bawa said the Chief will never write such a letter.
According to him he is aware and from the Chief’s own statements that Afenyo-Markin came to him (chief) promising to help him establish an endowment fund.
“This is an 85years old man who wants to help his people so he decided to establish an endowment fund. Afenyo-Markin came to him and promised to assist the chief with letters to various offices to solicit for funds for the endowment fund, “ he said.
He revealed that Afenyo-Markin gave the chief blanked letterheads to sign on so he, Afenyo-Markin, write the latter’s and do the distribution.
Alhassan Salifu Bawa said he did not understand why the said Chiefs letter and that of the National Security were released on the same day.
He said in as much as the Chief came publicly to deny writing such a letter, it is clear that Afenyo-Markin had a hand in the letter.
He however said he has been receiving threat phone calls from people just because he is expressing his views over developments that could bring the UEW down.
He said he keeps receiving death threats because he is vocal on issues regarding Afenyo-Markin and his interference in UEW matters.
