Alhaji Issaka Nii Nertey Honored for Perseverance and Dedicated Leadership at Zongo Prominent Awards 2025

The 2025 edition of the Zongo Prominent Awards saw a special recognition bestowed upon Alhaji Issaka Nii Nertey Nettey also known by his stool names Nii Adote Odaawulu I and Nii Doku III for his outstanding contributions and unwavering dedication to the progress of the Zongo community.

Alhaji Nettey, who serves as the Paramount Sempe Muslim Akwashongtse and Supreme Head of Gbese Sonmenaa, was presented with a citation of honour applauding his tireless efforts in youth empowerment, community development, and leadership.

The citation highlighted his inspirational role at the ceremony, his mentorship of young change-makers, and his consistent commitment to nurturing future leaders and advancing initiatives that strengthen Zongo identity.

About Alhaji Issaka Nii Nertey Nettey

Born into modest circumstances, Alhaji Nettey began his education at Hijaz Preparatory School and later attended St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School, where he studied Business Management. Financial challenges interrupted his academic journey, prompting him to take on jobs ranging from painter and salesman to freight forwarder in order to fund further studies.

His perseverance paid off in 2005 when he enrolled at the University of Ghana, Legon, graduating in 2009 with a degree in Political Science. While working as a clearing agent at the port, he pursued and obtained a Master’s degree in Ports and Shipping Management, aligning his academic training with professional practice.

Beyond his career in freight forwarding and port operations, Alhaji Nettey has established business interests in real estate and farming. A devoted family man, he balances his personal life with an active role in communal affairs and philanthropy.

Driven by the conviction that “service to mankind is service to God,” Alhaji Nettey continues to support people across diverse backgrounds through direct assistance, capacity-building efforts, and community projects. His traditional honours including the Hausa chieftaincy title Talba (“Noble King”), alongside his stool names Nii Adote Odaawulu I and Nii Doku III — reflect both family heritage and community trust in his leadership.

His story, from early hardship to educational achievement, professional success, and sustained philanthropy, resonates widely. Community leaders and citizens alike commend his resilience, humility, and tangible impact, seeing him as a model of servant leadership.
