An Open Letter To Candidate John Dramani Mahama As He Visits UWAC
Dear John Mahama,
I come to you with warm felicitations from the micro Republic of Adeiso in the face Upper West Akim Constituency. I hope by the good governance of His Excellency President Akufo Addo, you are not carrying your power bank along because your phone batteries are already charged to be able to read this piece. Gone were the days when we endured DUMSOR under your leadership. Thanks to Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia, this caricature in the name of Dumsor is a thing of the past.
JM, my salient pretext for pening you this piece is due to an information I had from your meagre followers here in Upper West Akim that you will be visiting the Constituency today, 18th November 2024.
Inasmuch as we all wish you well in your visit, one needs not to be a clairvoyant to predict the kind of propaganda and sweet words you will be throwing on us. Since there is nothing meaningful in your manifesto, we all know your last resort would be a compendium of speculations, amorphous personalities and nebulous innuendoes and insinuations. ( Apologies to Sammy Gyamfi )
In spite of this, I would also crave your indulgence to take a close look at the unprecedented achievement of your successor Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, ably spearheaded by our DCE – Hon Eugene Sackey and Hon. Frederick Adom Obeng – the NPP Member of Parliament in the Constituency. For your information, Upper West Akim Constituency has been lifted unto a higher pedestal in just few years comparative to the your NDC’s 28yrs rule and there is no way we are turning back.
The gateway to the Constituency from Nsawam is a popular area known as Maame Dede Junction. On your left hand side is a market shed in the bush which the former DCE under your leadership wasted tax payers’ money to construct. Because of incompetence and lack of consultation, 8 years aftermath; no single individual is willing to sell there depicting clearly that it is one of the misplaced priorities the then DCE embarked on. The only purpose was to take his 10% commission of the contract sum. I guess!
I believe these and many other factors are the reasons why you sacked him from office in December 2015 but later, you coercely brought him back because of hoax demonstrations and lack of competent personnels in the NDC party.
About a minute drive from Maame Dede Junction is a community known as Kwesi Nyarko. People of this locality have been very loyal to your party since 1992 but there is nothing worthwhile to show for. Thanks to Nana Addo, the Police Station which you couldn’t complete is now complete and in use.
Directly opposite the police station is the JHS building with ancillary facilities. Take a vivid look at it! . It is the handiwork of the current regime. A similar project is at Adeiso Presby Primary where I believe you will do your gathering.
The next town from Kwesi Nyarko is Papa Lamptey. These people have been voting for your party for 28yrs but it is under Nana Addo’s government that they are seeing electricity for the first time. The signpost with the inscription ‘NO LIGHT NO VOTE’ was erected at the junction of this community in December 2016 when you passed there was used as firewood in 2019 kind courtesy NPP government.
A minute drive from Lamptey is Asuaba. The major problem of Asuaba was the shift system in their Presbyterian Primary School and a place of convenience aside the acute water challenges. I am glad to inform you that this acute water phenomenon is a thing of the past under Nana Addo in Asuaba and thankfully, a 6 unit classroom block with ancillary facilities, offices, etc. is also done and dusted. Few days to come, their toilet facility will also be operational. Therefore, don’t be dismayed if you pass through Asuaba and you wave only at the wind.
From Asuaba you approach Tiokrom. Smaller communities under Tiokrom includes Odaba, Alafia, Dzogbesi, Gafa etc. These areas are where your party garners most of it its votes yet you never thought of providing them with electricity. Please be informed that electricity extension is at the advance stages in these areas with other 40 communities in the Constituency benefiting from same. Already, over 17 communities aside the above mentioned ones were already connected to the national grid in 2019. These areas includes. Alafia Ketewa, Ndoda, Danso Top, Danso Mankomeda, Sodeke, Gyakpatra, Alahu Akbar, Adandzi, Okaikrom etc.
When you come to Adeiso, the District capital with 4 Electoral Areas, there is a simple challenge thrown at your Parliamentary Candidate and past MPs to show what they did for the people in the past 28yrs. It is against this backdrop that your parliamentary candidate run away from the parliamentary debate organized by Adom FM and NCCE some few weeks ago. This clearly should give you a gist of the kind of abysmal parliamentary leadership the people of Upper West Akim endured for the past 28yrs from your own party. To God be the glory, the Adeiso Lorry Station is fixed, Asuogya foot bridge is fixed, Adeiso Palace Durbar Grounds done, Asuokaw Rural Telephony fixed, Astro Turf almost complete, Agenda 111 progressing steadily, and whatnot.
I don’t know your itenary but I will plead with you to visit the hometown and enclave of Hon. BEKOE the former MP. Don’t be scared about the deplorable nature of the road as you left it before you were booted out of power. By the Grace of God and the competency of Hon Frederick Adom Obeng, that road – Mepom Junction to Kumikrom which hitherto was a no go area is seeing butimen for the first time. Talking of communities seeing butimen for the first time, I can not skip the mention of Atimatim through Yaa Asor to Darmang and Kofi Asare stretch. That notwithstanding, all roads in the Constituency including that of Ntekyere, Amonkrom, Fante Winnan, Asuotwene Alafia, Odaba, Yaw Kwaisie and others have been reshaped kind courtesy the DRIP equipments and Hon. Frederick Adom Obeng. In Kumikrom enclave dwells the 3 most beautiful basic schools in the Constituency. Abamkrom, Adetim and Kumikrom.
There are 26 Electoral Areas and about 150 towns and communities in the Constituency. I can say on authority that in each Electoral Area and Community, the footprint of Nana Addo, Dr. Bawumia, Hon Eugene Sackey and the able Frederick Adom Obeng can be seen and felt. I don’t know if you have been following the media space in recent times. Any news update you hear these days concerning Upper West Akim Constituency stems from the handiworks of Hon. Frederick Adom Obeng. If it is not about awards to teachers, nurses and other workers, it is about support for apprenticeship graduands and free medical screenings. If it is not about commissioning of projects like mechanized boreholes, culverts, Durbar Grounds, etc. it’s about scholarship for students. From the areas of education to health to sanitation to water, to electricity expansion to jobs, Disability Supports, Agriculture, Security, Sports, Roads etc. Nana Addo, Bawumia, Eugene and Adom do all. The only thing left for you to talk about in the Constituency is the Zongo Mortuary and the nkoko nketenkete.
The people of Krodua and Takorasi are requesting that you pay them a visit this time around because the metal bridge that links these two communities that was started by President Kuffuor of which you abondoned for 8yrs has now been fixed . The empty Krodua CHPS compound which the then DCE commissioned few days to 2016 elections just to hoodwink the people for their votes is now fully furnished and operational by the able leadership of Hon. Eugene Sackey, the current DCE. Similar uncompleted projects which you bequeathed to the current government have also received the same swiftness of attention by the regime of the day. Example, Assembly block, Danso Chps Center, Nyamebekyere Building, Nyanoa Chps Center.
Sir, it has been your modus operandi that out of shyness, since 2016, you always come here late in the night because you do not want to be embarrassed with the kind of empty streets that meets you always. I believe this time you will defy all odds and come during the sunshine so that you will see the numerous achievements of this government which time and space would not permit me to highlight. That will give you a fair idea of what time it is in the Constituency rather than depending solely on the sweet words and propaganda your party apparats and executives in the Region and Constituency will tell you.
In conclusion, I would plead with you to as a matter of respect before your speech to entertain your bused followers, apologize to the good people of Upper West Akim Constituency and Ghana at large for letting us sleep in darkness for 5yrs, paying our teachers only 3months salaries instead of 3yrs, cancelling the teacher/nursing trainee allowances, rendering most of our graduates jobless and insulting them in addition, and finally capturing Adeiso Lorry station in your green book as an achievement.
I wish you well in your trip but definitely not
