Asuom Obodade Sinks His Teeth Into Bawumia

The traditional ruler condemns unfulfilled promises and calls for change in leadership.

In a strongly-worded critique, the Krontihene of Akyem Asuom expressed disappointment with Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing him of failing to deliver on key promises made to Ghanaians.

The Krontihene stated that the Vice President’s assurances of transformative initiatives, including a promised $18 billion investment, free kidney dialysis for National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) beneficiaries, and the construction of a medical city, have yet to materialize.

“We have pride,” the Krontihene emphasized.

“We were here when Bawumia told us he had $18 billion for Ghana, and we thought that was our salvation. But nothing happened.”

Among the most painful broken promises, he noted, was Bawumia’s 2019 pledge to work with Saudi Arabia’s King Salman to establish a Medical University and 42 Senior High Schools in the Northern region, a promise that the Krontihene said remains unfulfilled.

The Krontihene expressed skepticism about Bawumia’s capability to lead Ghana effectively as president, drawing a metaphor: “We can’t wait for a bad mate to take over from a bad driver.”

He expressed frustration over the current economic challenges despite record-breaking tax revenues, oil fields, and aid from international bodies, including the World Bank.

“Akufo-Addo and Bawumia’s regime saw vast revenues, yet the nation is struggling economically,” he said, adding, “This is a call for change.”

The chief, however, acknowledged certain positive initiatives, like the government’s apprenticeship program, urging that it should focus on providing real support to apprentices for lasting success.

He also praised former President John Mahama for his investments in digital infrastructure, including fiber optic networks and rural base stations, which he credited as the backbone of the country’s digitalization efforts.

He lauded the Apprenticeship Programme that Mahama is bringing and compared John Mahama’s coming to that Winston Churchill of United Kingdom who was voted back to lift war impoverished Britain unto economic recovery and massive developments.

Nana Boadi Amponim Obodade III, also asked Ghanaians to start what he termed Revolutionary Democracy saying that as soon as this government loses power, court actions should be taken against All Suspicious Government and Politically Exposed Persons; starting From The President To The Very Last Individual, injuncting them from leaving the country until they have been cleared of financial mismanagement, corruption and thievery.

“Bawumia was presented as an economic messiah, but he failed woefully,” he said, concluding, “I will go for John Dramani Mahama.”

This public rebuke highlights growing discontent among traditional leaders over unfulfilled promises and may influence political sentiment in the lead-up to the next election.
