Awutu Senya East NDC Rejects Move To Change Collation Center
The National Democratic Congress NDC in Awutu Senya East Constituency has opposed the Electoral Commission of Ghana proposal to change the collation center from the District Police Headquarters to the newly built Regional Headquarters.
In a letter addressed to the Kasoa District Director of the Commission and signed by the NDC Parliamentary Candidate, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor stated that the eleventh-hour decision would disrupt plans and preparations made by the NDC.
The District Police Headquarters she said has been the designated collation center for years, as it offers a secure environment believing that the change of center will favor the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and their Parliamentary candidate, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, who financed the new facility.
The decision according to Naa Koryoo should have been discussed at IPAC and agreed upon by all parties adding that the recent transfer of the District Electoral Officer and his Deputy raises concerns.
“While not questioning the new Electoral Officer’s integrity, we perceive this move as favoring the ruling party. We therefore wish to call on the EC to revert to the use of the original collation center or a neutral venue. We will not accept alternatives” she noted.
