Former Ashanti Security Chief Warns Against Tribal Politics ..Descends On Mathew Opoku Prempeh
Mr. Enoch Amoako-Nsiah, former National Security Coordinator for the Ashanti Region, has issued a stark warning about the dangers of tribalism in the region’s politics, condemning recent statements by Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
According to Enoch Amoako-Nsiah, Dr. Prempeh’s remarks—discouraging Ashanti Region residents from supporting the NDC and suggesting that voting for the opposition would bring “a curse”—risk deepening divisions within the community.
He was speaking at a media engagement in Kumasi where he criticized this language as divisive and counterproductive, urging Asanteman to rally around shared goals rather than tribal allegiances.
“The people of Asanteman deserve leaders who unite us,” he said. Emphasizing the progress made in Ashanti under NDC governance, Enoch Amoako-Nsiah called on voters to resist tribal appeals and support a leadership that prioritizes development over discord.
He pointed to the inclusive policies of the NDC as a way forward for a united, prosperous Ashanti Region.
Enoch Amoako-Nsiah described these statements as irresponsible and damaging to Ashanti’s unity, suggesting they risk fostering unnecessary tribalism within the political arena. “Statements like these don’t just divide us; they undermine the progress we’ve made as a region and as a country,” he stated, emphasizing that Ghana’s strength lies in its unity, not in divisive rhetoric.
Highlighting the historical development of the Ashanti Region under NDC administrations, Enoch Amoako-Nsiah argued that regional advancement should be the priority rather than any form of tribal loyalty.
He recounted the various improvements made during NDC leadership, including infrastructural growth and social development, which benefited Asanteman without exclusion.
“The people of Asanteman should vote based on leadership that unites and serves,” Enoch Amoako-Nsiah urged.
He called on voters to reject rhetoric that sows division and to instead support parties that prioritize inclusivity and the broader national interest.
He stressed that tribalism threatens regional cohesion and urged the people of Asanteman to support John Mahama and the NDC for a future free from divisive politics.
