GoldBod Rolls Out Special Bonus to Boost Licensed Miners and Curb Gold Smuggling

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced a special temporary bonus of GHS832 per pound of gold for all licensed miners across the country, effective Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

A statement signed by GoldBod’s Media Relations Officer, Prince Kwame Minka, explained that the incentive is aimed at motivating licensed miners while combating gold smuggling, which continues to drain Ghana’s mineral revenue.

With this bonus in place, a pound of gold that previously sold for GHS8,868 on the local market is now fetching GHS9,700.

The initiative comes in direct response to concerns from licensed miners about the fall in local gold prices in recent months, largely attributed to the continuous appreciation of the Ghana cedi. GoldBod noted that while the stronger cedi has helped the national economy, miners should not bear unintended losses, especially when their efforts have boosted Ghana’s gold output and foreign exchange earnings.

GoldBod has directed its licensed traders nationwide to ensure the prompt payment of the special bonus to all miners who sell through its official channels.

“This measure is both a reward and a safeguard,” the statement emphasized, “to ensure that those who contribute legitimately to Ghana’s mining sector are duly protected and encouraged.”
