Mahama Is Not A Drunkard – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a strong statement condemning what it describes as “unsubstantiated and baseless” remarks made by Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea, Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, against the NDC’s Flagbearer, H.E. John Dramani Mahama.

The comments were made during a mini-rally on August 28, 2024, where Hon. Atta Akyea allegedly referred to the former president as “a drunkard and an alcoholic.

“The NDC has expressed deep disappointment over what they describe as a “descent into the gutter” by a senior member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). “Such comments not only undermine the decency of political discourse but also expose the desperation of the NPP in the face of an imminent electoral defeat,” the NDC stated.

In its statement, the NDC reaffirmed that John Mahama is a respected statesman with an undeniable commitment to the progress of Ghana. “His track record in public service and his enduring leadership qualities speak for themselves,” the statement continued.

The NDC has demanded an immediate retraction and apology from Hon. Atta Akyea, warning that failure to comply may lead the party to explore “all available avenues” to protect the integrity of its Flagbearer.

The statement, signed by NDC General Secretary Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, concludes by calling on the NPP to maintain a clean and respectful campaign that addresses the concerns of the Ghanaian electorate. “We remain committed to a campaign of ideas and solutions,” the NDC assured the public.

The NPP has yet to respond to the NDC’s demands.
