Mahama Reduces 2026 Hajj Fare to GH¢60,000 After Eight Years Without Relief

The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has announced a reduction in the cost of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage from GH¢62,000 to GH¢60,000, marking the first fare relief in eight years.
According to a statement issued on October 13, 2025, the decision follows extensive consultations between the PAOG, leading Islamic clerics, and key stakeholders in the Hajj sector.
PAOG Chairman, Alhaji Abdul-Rauf Tanko Ibrahim, expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his directive to implement the reduction and for reappointing him to lead the Office.
“This adjustment comes after fruitful engagements with the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu; Sheikh Umar Ibrahim of Ahlussuna Wal Jama’a; Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana; and accredited Hajj agents,” Alhaji Tanko said.
He urged all stakeholders to uphold integrity and commitment as preparations for the 2026 pilgrimage intensify. He also advised prospective pilgrims to make timely payments to avoid last-minute challenges.
“All accredited agents must ensure that payments are made only to the officially designated bank,”
