The Vice-Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, on Wednesday, November 11th, 2020, paid a courtesy call on Greater Accra Zongo Chief Sarki Alhaji Yahaya Hamisu Bako.
The Running Mate’s team includes the former Deputy Masloc CEO, Hon. Mustapha Abubakar, the Deputy General Secretary, Peter Boamah Otokunor, Former Deputy Education Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Regional Chairman, Mr. Joseph Ade Coker, National Communication team member, Alhaji Halidu Haruna, Deputy Regional Organiser, Hon. Gambo Zamatu and Alhaji Mohammed Ashkah.
Constituency Executives includes, the Parliament Candidate, Hon. Abdul Latif Dan, Chairman Kplorm Kofi Dudornu, Communication Officer, Hon. Vivian Salah, Secretary Hon. Sumai’la Alhassan and host of others.
The running mate of former President Mahama expressed her gratitude to the Chief for the warm reception of the delegation. She highlighted NDC’s outstanding track record of massive developmental infrastructure across the country and seek the support and prayers of the Chiefs in the party’s quest for victory ahead of the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections. She added that the party needs blessings and advice of the Chiefs to gain victory in the upcoming elections.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang thanked the Chiefs for good leadership in their communities.
Narrating a brief history about Sabon Zongo to the NDC running mate, the Secretary of the Greater Accra Zongo Chief, Mr. Usif Eliasu stated that Sabon Zongo was birthed in 1909, over 110 years now. He said The then James town chief Mantse Kojo Ababio IV granted Mallam Muhammad Baako land for the settlement of the Hausa people, The Hausa and Muslim community which was endorsed by the colonial government at the time through the secretary for native affairs.
The visit according to him is a sign of respect to the Zongo community as a whole and portrays the importance and recognition of Zango community when it comes to political activities and hopes the party’s friendship continues even after December 7 elections. He reiterated that over the years, empty promises have been made to Zango Communities This year he said, the party’s manifesto has highlighted a great deal of concern for Zangos and Muslim community and hopes they will not be neglected, marginalized nor forgotten as is always the case.
“I would like to emphasize that, this issue of neglect and marginalization of the Zango communities especially Sabon Zango is a major concern for our people, it makes us feel like we are only useful during elections and useless afterwards” he noted.
