Nana Otobuor Gyan Kwasi II, the Aburi Hene and Adonten Hene of the Akuapem Traditional Area, has emphasized the importance of a peaceful election process in Ghana.
Speaking at the installation of Nana Kwabena Ansah I as the new Chief of Nsawam in Aburi, in a significant event marked by cultural pride and a call for national unity, Nana Otobuor Gyan Kwasi II urged President Nana Akufo-Addo to leave a legacy of peaceful elections as he concludes his term.
The traditional leader also appealed to the Electoral Commissioner to uphold fairness and transparency to maintain the peace the nation currently enjoys.
“We must ensure that the peace we have is not disrupted. It is crucial for all parties involved, including the Electoral Commission, to do the right thing,” he stated.
Addressing the gathering, Nana Otobuor Gyan Kwasi II also called on political party leaders to focus on issues-based campaigns rather than resorting to insults.
He advised them to present their policies clearly and let the people decide based on merit.
“Avoid the insults. Talk straight on your policies,” he urged.
The Aburi Hene also had a message for the youth, encouraging them to resist the temptation of selling their votes.
“Think about the future of Ghana. Let us vote for the right people to ensure the continued peace and development of our nation,” he advised.
Nana Otobuor Gyan Kwasi II expressed confidence that the upcoming elections would be peaceful, emphasizing that no one could disrupt the country’s stability.
The event also marked a turning point for Nsawam, as the installation of Nana Kwabena Ansah I as the new chief brought an end to years of chieftaincy disputes.
“Today, Nsawam has taken over its glory. We are all one under one umbrella,” the Aburi Hene declared.
He urged the media to be champions of Nsawam’s progress and called on the District Assembly to work closely with the new chief to bring development to the area.
“Nana Kwabena Ansah I is a calm and attentive leader who will listen to the needs of his people. I have given you a chief who will work for the betterment of Nsawam and, by extension, Aburi,” Nana Otobuor Gyan Kwasi II affirmed.
As the nation prepares for its upcoming elections, the Aburi Hene’s call for peace, unity, and responsible leadership resonates strongly, setting a hopeful tone for the future.
