Saudi Arabia Inaugurates Distribution of Laxary Date Fruits in Ghana

The Office of Duat under the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call, and Guidance of Saudi Arabia in Ghana has inaugurated the distribution of laxary date fruits and Iftar at the National Mosque in Accra.

This initiative is part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to support Muslims worldwide during the holy month of Ramadan.

The distribution of these high-quality date fruits to various countries signifies the generosity and commitment of His Majesty, King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, in assisting families in need.

Speaking at the inauguration and Iftar ceremony on Friday, March 14, 2025, the supervisor of the Duat Office in Ghana, Dr. Abass Shamsudeen Ibrahim stated that the annual distribution of laxary date fruits is a tradition upheld by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with Ghana being one of the beneficiaries.

According to him, similar distributions will take place in various regions across the country, including Tamale, Kumasi, and Wa, where the organization operates.

Dr. Ibrahim emphasized that date fruits hold great significance in Islam for breaking the Ramadan fast. He cited a Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), in which Allah says: “Whoever provides Iftar for a fasting person to break their fast, will receive the same reward as the fasting person, without diminishing the fasting person’s reward.”

He urged Muslims to emulate this act of generosity by offering whatever they can to support the needy in breaking their fast during Ramadan.

Dr. Ibrahim further stated that the date fruits will be distributed through opinion leaders in various mosques, who will identify those in need and ensure they receive the fruits to break their fast.
