Tension Mounts in Awutu Senya East NDC as Chairman’s Supporter Allegedly Threatens Lives of MP, MCE and Two Others

Tensions are escalating within the Awutu Senya East Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following an alleged death threat issued against the Member of Parliament, Hon. Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and two other party members.
The threats were allegedly made by a close ally of the constituency chairman, Stephen Ofosu Agyare. In an audio recording circulating among party members, the supporter is reportedly heard hurling insults and threatening to “eliminate” the MP, the MCE, and two others, accusing them of attempting to undermine the chairman’s interests in the constituency.
In the recording, the individual claims he was returning from a galamsey site “with his boys” and boasted that “no man can face him in Kasoa.” He is also heard invoking curses on the MP, the MCE and their associates, describing them as “Satan,” and declaring that they would be cast into “the hellfire of Jehovah Tetragrammaton and his people.”
The supporter further invoked what he described as the “spirit of the holy archangel Safel,” claiming it to be the angel of death, and threatening that the targeted individuals could face fatal consequences.
Sources confirm that the affected persons have lodged a formal complaint with the police. Checks at the Central Regional Police Headquarters at Adam Nana indicate that the report has been received and is currently under review by the Regional Commander.
This development comes at a time of deepening internal friction within the constituency. Supporters of Chairman Agyare reportedly argue that he should be allowed to contest the parliamentary seat. However, allies of the sitting MP insist that it is premature for the chairman to declare such ambitions, especially considering the NDC has been in government for less than a year.
There are also claims that the chairman did not support Hon. Naa Koryoo during the 2024 elections, an issue previously addressed by both regional and national party executives. At one point, former President John Dramani Mahama reportedly intervened to calm tensions within the constituency.
Meanwhile, some party insiders believe the chairman’s recent posture suggests an interest in contesting the parliamentary seat, fueling suspicion that he may be attempting to undermine the MP.
Police investigations into the alleged threats are ongoing.
