UMaT Team Wins Ghana Gas Challenge Competition
The University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa are the winners of the final Ghana Gas Challenge competition for the 2019 edition.
The other contenders are kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and University of Ghana.
They placed second and third respectively.
The Gas Challenge is an initiative by Ghana National Gas Company which was launched earlier this year.
The aim of the competition according to Dr. Ben K.D Asante,CEO of Ghana Gas, is to educate the public on domestic gas, the economic opportunities along the gas value chain aswell as the health and safety matters related to the use of gas.
“UMaT” winners of the first edition of the well contested Gas Challenge walks home with a prize money of 10,000,00 ghana cedis, Internship training at Ghana Gas for six months as well as other goodies.
Knust and UG also won various prizes for coming second and third in the competition.
The occasion was graced by dignitories such as Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhaasan, MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, she tasked the youth to aim higher and to work hard to achieve their dreams in future.
Hon. Cecilia Abena Dappah, Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Dr.Mohammed Amin Adam Deputy Minister of Energy, Hon.Sylvester Tetteh, CEO of National Youth Authority as well as Mr. Affail Monney GJA President and many others.
The various Universities had their “Jama” representatives who came to cheer them on.
Congratulations to UMaT, better luck next time to other universities who participated in the competition.
Thumbs up to Dr. K.D Asante CEO of Ghana Gas for the initiative, Mr. Kweku Asare and all the workers of Ghana National Gas Company who worked tirelessly to make the competition a success.
The call is for other companies to also come up with initiatives that train, educate and equip tertiary students for the future.
