New Register Waste Of Ghana’s Money – Sammy Gyamfi

National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has said in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com that the new voter’s register is a complete waste of state resources.

Speaking on Asempa FM‘s ‘Ekosii Sen show’, Sammy Gyamfi said the register used for the 2016 general elections was the cleanest and most credible register one could find anywhere in the world.

He added that the EC wanted to waste taxpayer’s monies on what he described as a “fruitless” venture.

“Ghana’s current voters’ register is one of the cleanest and most credible in the world so the EC’s argument is vain idealism,” he said.

The NDC man explained that no electoral management system was sacrosanct thus the argument that a new register was the panacea to curbing electoral fraud defied logic.

The EC has been trying to give reasons for the compilation of a new voters register.

The electoral body has cited advice from its IT experts that the current elections management system was obsolete hence the need for a new one for the December elections.

But the Inter-Party Resistance Against a New Voters’ Register (IPRNA) has already started demonstrations in opposition to the compilation of the new register.

It is estimated that, the EC will need about GHC 400 million in compiling a new register but the NDC executivein his interview challenged the EC to produce documents to support its argument of high cost in upgrading old register.

But Mr Sammy Gyamfi who is not enthused with the stance of the EC Chairperson and her team on the other hand has described Madam Jean Mensa as “slay queen and minister for elections affairs for Akufo-Addo”.
