LaLOC Foundation Donates Face Masks, Other Items To Basic Schools In Tema Newtown
A Tema based NGO, Living a Life of Cleanliness Foundation, (LaLOC) has donated some pieces of face masks among other items to final year students in some basic schools in the Tema East Constituency to aid in the fight against COVID-19.
In all, about 70 students and teachers benefited from the donation exercise in three private schools in Tema Newtown.
The beneficiary schools, Campresco School Academy, St. Margaret School Complex and St. Mark A.M.E Zion School, each received assorted items including face masks and other items.
They each received LaLoC branded face masks, pocket tissues and sanitary towels as well as gallons of liquid soap.
The gesture was part of the foundation’s annual activities of visiting basic schools to educate them on good sanitation practices and how to keep a clean environment.
According to the President of the foundation, Miss Ernestina Adzo Dika, who made the presentation noted that, students are the future of the country and for the goal of a clean Ghana to be achieved, students must be educated at a young age in order for them to grow with a positive mindset.
She educated the students to segregate their waste into plastic, paper and organic components, and also added that they separate their infectious waste such as disposable masks in order to protect waste collectors from getting infested.
Sharing the face masks and pocket tissues to the students, she educated them to make sure they wear the mask while they sit for their Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E) and also wash their hands as often as possible with soap under running water regularly.
“I entreat you to observe the protocols given by the government and always make sure you wear your mask in order to keep safe and together we will fight COVID-19,” Miss Dika advised.
She said the Foundation through its “Wear Your Mask” campaign had received some contributions from well-meaning individuals and decided to embark on this exercise as a way of complementing the efforts of the government.
Miss Ernestina Dika, who is also Miss Metro Tema 2018 1st Runner-up, said while the Foundation recognises the effort being made by the government to mitigate the spread of the disease, “it behooves on corporate bodies as well as individuals to contribute their quota to support the government in the fight.”
She however called on corporate institutions and benevolent individuals to support their campaign in order to give to other vulnerable groups by reducing the discomforts associated with coronavirus pandemic, saying that “although the spread of the disease has reduced, it doesn’t mean it is totally gone so for us not to have a recurrence, let us continue to observe the protocols and also support others to keep safe.”
Mr Mark Solomon Nortey, the bursar of Campresco School Academy, expressed his joy at the gesture by the Foundation, saying, “As with the directive given by the President that the nose mask is now mandatory, they will have these materials to help them not to get infested and also infest others.”
Adding, “We want to thank LaLoC Foundation and also those that are associated with it, they should carry on with their good work and their good works will speak for them.”
Noble Nkansah, the school prefect of St. Margaret School Complex, in showing gratitude said, “on behalf of the students, staff and management of St. Margaret School Complex, we are grateful for the Covid-19 items you donated to us and we promise to take good care of them and wish you will come back with more items.”
