Government Will Build An Islamic University College of Education With GETFUND Next Year – Zongo Minister
The leadership of Eastern Regional Council of Muslim Chiefs have made a passionate appeal to government to establish an Islamic University College of Education in Donkokrom.
President of Council, Sarkin Zongo of Kibi, Alhaji Umar Abubakar at a consultative meeting of the council on peaceful elections held in Kibi over the weekend made the appeal on behalf of his colleagues.
According to Alhaji Umar, the Islamic University College of Education will produce quality human resources with blend Western and Islamic education. Currently, many of Islamic schools he said are struggling to get professional teachers to teach both circular and Islamic subjects.
Minister Inner Cites and Zongo Development, Dr. Abdul-Hamid Mustapha, who was the guest of honour promised to escalate their request to the Vice President of the Republic Ghana, Dr. Alhaji Mahamud Bawumiah for special consideration.
According to the Minister, the NPP manifesto for 2020 elections also promise to build 16 new model Islamic Senior High Schools (SHS) in the Zongos across the regions.
“It is therefore prudent to have higher institution of learning such colleges and universities to accommodate future graduates of the model schools, hence, the need to give your demand a priority.
He gave the assurance that the funding for the Islamic University College would come from GETFUND.
An opinion leader and a private businessman, Alhaji Ismail Abdul-Karim a resident Koforidua was full of praise for the Muslim leadership in the region and commended them for making education a priority.
He reiterated: “Islam placed a high value on education, and as the faith spread among diverse peoples, education became an important channel through which to create a universal and cohesive social order.”
According to Alhaji Abdul-Karim, the Islamic University College of Education in the region which is already under construction is an initiative of the Ghana Muslim Mission adopted by Muslims in the region.
Currently, the project is been sponsored to collective efforts all central mosques through Friday donations which woefully inadequate.
The intention of the government to takeover next year is a welcoming relief to the Muslims in the region adding that the role of teacher education in every society is of great prominence.
The Consultative meeting observed that in the past, a teacher was cogitated as a vital source of knowledge, but today this view is somehow vary. Generally, the predominant role of teacher for the purpose to contribute to the development of a society in indispensable.
In this regard, the Islamic University College of Education when completed is expected to produce morally upright teachers with improved professional skills to address the shortage of teachers in Islamic school.
