IAWPA Appoints Sultan Adamu As New UN Ambassador

The International Association of World Peace Advocates has appointed the Zongo Chief of Berima Lafa Traditional Area, Sarki Sultan Adamu Mohammed as the new United Nations Peace Ambassador to Ghana.

At a dinner held at the Exhibition Hall of the National Theater in Accra, the newly appointed UN Peace Ambassador was honored with Africa Peace Advocate Award.

The honour was in line with his contribution towards promoting and sustaining peace within the Zongo communities and surrounding areas.

The event also celebrated other Chiefs, Queen Mothers, Government Officials among others who were honoured for their various contributions to promoting peace in the country.

Sarki Sultan Adamu Mohammed who doubles as the Apagyahene of Ajumako Traditional Area in the Central Region was applauded by the organizers of the Award for his efforts in promoting peace and conflict resolution among the youth in many communities.

The event was part of this year’s celebrations of the International Day of Peace, which falls on September 21 every year.

The United Nations Peace Volunteer Certificate of recognition presented to him said: Mohammed Adamu Sultan “is hereby appointed as PEACE AMBASSADOR and he is qualifying to all right and privileges to the organisation and expected to function as a Peace Advocate in any part of the world with regard to the declaration on the right of people to Peace (1984) of the United Nations Resolution.

Settled and Signed on this day 21 September, 2024 by the Council of Governance of Peace”.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the event, the newly appointed UN Peace Ambassador and Peace Advocate Award winner called on all Ghanaians to embrace peace before, during and after this year’s general elections.

He appealed to the Electoral Commission to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in December.

He added that the country has over the years witnessed peaceful processes leading to elections and transfer of power from one political party to another and, therefore, the EC must ensure that the upcoming elections follow the same trajectory.

This according to him will be achieve through a transparent electoral process adding that it is incumbent on the side of the EC to give a level playing grounds for all the political parties contesting this year’s general elections.

He called on the EC to be proactive in addressing concerns made by the political parties relating to the conduct of the Election.

The newly appointed UN Peace Ambassador Sarki Sultan Adamu Mohammed urged the EC to put all necessary measures in place that would guarantee more transparent and credible elections to prevent electoral fraud by any political party.

This among others he said will consolidate the gains of the nation’s democracy and bring peace before, during and after the elections.
