Book And Research Allowances For University Teachers Still Unpaid
The Book and Research Allowances for University Teachers have still not been paid by government.
This has become a major concern to the National Executive Committee of the University Teachers Association, whose members have threatened to seize their functions from Monday September 14, 2020.
In a Press Release signed by the Association President, Prof Charles Marfo and Dr. Eric K.K. Abavare, its Secretary, they indicated that they are yet to receive the Book and Research Allowances (BRA) for the last Academic year (2019/200 economic year) even though all the necessary and needed documenfion for the facilitation of the payment have been presented to the appropriate institutions of government.
According to them, they have been told time and time again that payment has been made through the GIFMIS system, yet no member of UTAG has received these allowances.
“It is important to note that despite all efforts and countless attempts to see the powers that be in government to see to it that the last academic year’s BRA is paid to its members continue to bear no fruit,” they indicated.
The Association averred that it will advise is members accordingly should government fails to ensure prompt payment of the allowances before September 14.
“UTAG wishes to inform and to plead with the public and all stakeholders that should the next academic year’s calendar which as already seen some disruption, due to the Covid-19 pandemic is further derailed, it should not be blamed but the government’s actions and inactions in dealing with the association on the subject matter,” they stated.
