Feature: Afenyo-Markin Takes His Lies To Former President Rawlings
The most corrupt and beleaguered Board Chairman of the Ghana Water Co. Ltd. (GWCL), Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, who hasn’t got the fear of God in him, less to talk of fear and respect for the elderly in society, took his blatant and outright propagation of falsehood to former President Rawlings on Tuesday 1st October, 2019, and lied through his teeth that the over bloated contract awarded to Intermec (Gh) Ltd. at a disgraceful cost of GHS 14,801,971.50, was entered into in 2016.
Hundreds, if not thousands of contracts, have been awarded to Intermec (Gh) Ltd. by GWCL. However, if the corrupt Board Chairman was referring to the contract I mentioned in my petition to the Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP), then obviously Afenyo-Markin lied to former President Rawlings in particular, and the world at large.
The contract for the supply and installation of transport pump control panel and additional items in respect of Takoradi pump house at Inchaban headworks, was entered into on 12th January, 2018, when Afenyo-Markin was already Board Chairman of GWCL (Afenyo-Markin became Board Chairman of GWCL in October, 2017). The said contract was signed on behalf of GWCL by the Managing Director (MD), Dr. Clifford Braimah, with Mrs. Jemima Toseafa, Chief Manager, Legal Services, as the MD’s witness.
Eric Johnson on the other hand, signed on behalf of Intermec (Gh) Ltd., witnessed by Frederick Quaye, General Manager of Intermec (Gh) Ltd.
I urge those respectable persons attempting a mediation on this issue, to caution Afenyo-Markin to put a STOP to these lies, otherwise I will release more damning documents to prove daylight and naked theft of public funds at GWCL. This will include instances, where items that can be procured reasonably at GHS 50,000, are awarded on contract at close to GHS 1,500,000, and the contractors/suppliers are given illegal advance mobilization of almost half of the contract price, and immediately after receiving the said illegal advance mobilization, the contractors/suppliers, vanish into thin air! This has the potential of collapsing a government, so Afenyo-Markin shouldn’t dare!
Attached are documents to prove that the award of the contract to Intermec (Gh) Ltd. at a whooping sum of GHS 14,801,971.50, bypassing and overlooking the lower quotation of GHS 2,240,505.00 by Sunbabsco Ltd. The Republic of Ghana lost a colossal sum of GHS 12,561,466.50 in this particular contract!
The argument that only Intermec (Gh) Ltd. can supply the items in question in the whole of Ghana, is another palpable lie, as Sunbasco’s quote, clearly shows that they were capable and willing to supply the items if awarded the said contract.
The particular contract cited in my petition to the OSP, was signed and witnessed in 2018, and definitely NOT in 2016, as Afenyo-Markin would want former President Rawlings and the world at large to believe!
The petition I submitted to the OSP is NOT a subject of media war. The facts surrounding the petition would speak or attest to the issues raised.
Afenyo-Markin is warned to keep his mouth ‘zipped’ while these respectable members of society attempt an amicable settlement. If Afenyo-Markin is given a free hand to openly cause instability at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), then no ONE should blame me for exposing theft at GWCL. It doesn’t matter who will go down with Afenyo-Markin in the end!!!
