The Gbese Mantse and Adonten of Ga State Nii Ayi Bonte II and his Gyaase on Saturday May 25, 2024 settled a dispute between the Sonmenaa Family (Nii Doku We) and Asafoatse Nettey Christopher family of Swalaba Quarters over who has the mandate to install the Gbese Asofoatse Nukpa ( Warrior).
The Sonmenaa family led by Nii Doku III and Asafoatse Nettey Christopher of Swalaba are brothers under the Gbese stool and it is the mandate of the family head to install the Asafoatse who automatically becomes the Asofoatse (warrior) of the Ga Gbese and Ga State.
This has over a period brought heated argument within the Gamashie area over the legitimacy of the two family as to who has the mandate to install the Asofoatse for the Ga Gbese and Ga state.
At a meeting to bring an end to the dispute at the Gbese Mantse Palace in Accra, the Gbese Mantse Nii Ayi Bonte II and the Jaase directed that the mandate of installing the Asofoatse Nukpa for the Ga Gbese and Ga State solely depends on a Supreme Family Head ( Nii Doku III) per the tradition of Gbese and Ga State as a whole.
The decision gave the Doku We (family) the mandate as the legitimate family to provide and install Asofoatse Nukpa for the Ga Gbese and Ga State.
Nii Ayi Bonte II urged the people of Swalaba Quarters to respect and comply with his directives for development and peaceful coexistence since they are all from one heritage and lineage.
It will be recalled that the elders and some members of the Gbese Sonmenaa family on August 5, 2023, officially installed a businessman and philanthropist, Nii Doku III as the Supreme Head of Gbese Sonmenaa family( Nii Doku We)
Nii Doku III known in private life as Alhaji Issaka Nii Nertey Nettey who is the grandson of Nii Okanteh Nertey aka “Why Worry” a senior Principal Elder of Gbese has been mandated to oversee the activities of the family as well as to ensure the development and progress of not only Sonmenaa but Gbese and the Ga State at large.
Nii Doku III after his installation as the Supreme Head of Gbese Sonmenaa family assured the people of Gbese and the entire Ga State of installing Gbese Asofoatse Nukpa as he has been mandated so as to foster progress and development among the people of Gbese and the Ga State at Large.
