LISTEN TO CONCERN OF GHANAIANS – YAA NAA ABUKARI TO EC
The Paramount Chief of Dagbong Traditional area, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II, has called on the Electoral commissioner Madam Jean Mensah to listen to the concern of Ghanaians and not to disenfranchise any citizen the right to vote.
The Dagbong Chief made the call when the executives of Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana ADAM-GH paid a courtesy call to the Traditional Council and to petitioned against the electoral commission on the compilation of new Voter’s Register and the use of Passport and Ghana card as the only requirement.
According to him Ghanaians started voting since 1992 and Ghanaians always use existing voter’s ID card as a requirement for new once.
He said the passport and Ghana card has never been the requirement as prove of identity and therefore, the action of the electoral commission can disenfranchise the people of Dagbong.
He stated that it is the responsibility of the electoral commission and not government because the electoral commission is an independent body and must serve the interest of Ghanaians.
The advocacy group has so petitioned the Commission for Human Right and Administrative Justice, former President Jerry John Rawlings, former President John Agyekum Kuffour and among others.
