With months for the curtains to be drawn on the tenure of Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II as President of the National House of Chiefs, some Kingmakers in the Ga state have described his tenure as the worst ever experienced under any leader of the National House of Chiefs.
Nana Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II who was voted into office in 2020 to lead the House, has been blamed for several anomalies in the chieftaincy institution, top among the issues being the gazettion of unqualified persons as Chiefs.
Some Chiefs in the Ga State, especially in Prampram and Ga Mashie, are accusing the president of the House of Chiefs of being the cause of several chieftaincy disputes being witnessed in the Ga state. They cited the installation and gazetting of individuals like Michael Quarcopome Packer (who operates under the stool name Nene Tetteh Wakah) as a clear case of his bias-induced leadership.
They questioned why the National House of Chiefs under the leadership of Nana Ogyeahoho would allow the gazetting of Michael Quarcopome a known landguard who does not hail from any of the royal gates in Prampram despite concrete evidence supporting claims of him being an imposter.
They averred that the numerous legal cases against Nana Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II since his election to office confirm their claims that the former is the worst president ever elected to lead the house.
Numo Osabu Abbey IV, the stool father of the Prampram Paramountcy, when interviewed, also shared similar views with that of his kingmakers. According to him for the National House of Chiefs to uphold the error made by the regional House of Chiefs, despite factual evidence discrediting the candidature of the said Nene Tetteh Wakah speaks a lot.
He questioned how someone who was kept in a royal casket room, on the hindsight of kingmakers, could be gazetted as a chief of a Prampram where its indigenes are against his candidature. He said for the house to support the said Nene Tetteh Wakah who is a known land guard, accused of numerous atrocities in parts of the city, lowers the standard of chieftaincy in Ghana and this can be blamed on the leadership of Nana Ogyeahoho Gyebi Donkor II.
“Michael Quarcopome Packer has been fingered in many murder cases which are being investigated by Greater Accra Regional Police Command coupled with land guard activities involving one notorious land guard popularly known as ‘Alifa’ who himself is also under investigation by the Ghana police service”, they have now diverted their nefarious activities to Prampram and engaging in illegal land sale spree”, Numo Osabu added. Numo Osabu Abbey IV is on record to have enstooled the Prampram Paramount Queen mother, the royal chief priest, and the Head of the Family who is supposed to have enstooled the embattled Michael Quarcopome Packer. He could not fathom why the regional house of chiefs would question his eligibility in his quest to unmask the Nene Tetteh Wakah as an imposter when the said authority used in enstooling the latter was given to his family head by him ( the Paramount Stoolfather).
He called for leaders such as the Asantehene, IGP, and the interior minister, to do more to root out the corruption within the National and Regional Housees of Chiefs, which is threatening the fiber of the country’s chieftaincy institution.
