Serious fresh ructions have emerged at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), resulting in some prominent members, including former officers of the University mounting attacks against the Vice Chancellor, Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, in an apparent plot to get him removed from office.
The plot which was hatched was to get some media houses committed to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to push this diabolic plan against the Vice Chancellor.
So serious is the plan to remove the VC from office, that the perpetrators presented an already drafted news item to the media under the headline “UPSA VICE-CHANCELLOR IN MASSIVE CORRUPTION BLOW 1.6 MILLION GHANA CEDIS ON PRIVATE RESIDENCE.”
In the said story, several allegations were brought against the VC among which is the claim that he used taxpayers’ money to renovate his private home after assuming office in January 2017.
It was also alleged that VC Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey spent Two Million Cedis to purchase Toyota Land Cruiser Four Wheel Drive and a State of the art Mercedes Benz Salon Car.
The plotters of this diabolic plan also claim that Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey has been involved in procurement breaches as he used a Surrogate Company called KABOD Place Enterprise to siphon Hundreds of Thousands of tax payers’ money from the university coffers.
It is also being alleged that due to his style of leadership, he sacked the former Internal Auditor of the University.
Meanwhile, painstaking investigations into these allegations as plotted in an already concocted news item to media houses, revealed that the Vice Chancellor, Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey who has transformed the university within three years of assuming office, has become a target to some individuals and former officers of the university who still have interest in the activities of the school.
Information gathered from the university indicates that the VC neither spent the university’s resources to renovate his private residence nor did he purchase a Toyota Land Cruiser Four Wheel Drive and a State of the art Mercedes Benz Salon Car as claimed.
It has also been established that the former Internal Auditor who is currently out of the country, was reassigned by the VC when he was found not to have acquired the necessary qualifications to get him to that position.
According to information gathered, the former Internal Auditor who was put in that position by a former Vice Chancellor, does not have a Master’s Degree which is a requirement for persons applying as an Auditor at the University.
However, upon assumption of office, there was a nationwide assessment of all the University staff which eventually exposed the fact that the said Internal Auditor was unqualified for the job.
The VC, Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, hence decided to reassign him but he did not accept that proposal.
These allegations this paper gathered from the university both staff and students front, are nothing but a calculated attempt to get Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey out of the office to create way for a woman as VC.
Snippets of information gathered revealed that prior to the retirement of former Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Joshua Alabi, an attempt was made to have his wife, Professor Mrs Goski Alabi succeed him.
That decision was however stalled, considering the public outcry and criticism that it might generate.
According to sources, that dream was not completely abandoned.
It however interests many people at the university to see that these machinations against the current Vice-Chancellor is coming at a time when Professor Mrs Goski Alabi who traveled outside the country is back to the University.
Many people believe that these machinations against the VC of the university will not auger well for the continuous growth of the university considering the excellent transformation he is effecting at the school.
Meanwhile, both staff and students who lauded the achievements of Professor Abednego F.O. Amartey said, these attacks are “baseless.”
