Potential Bawumia Running Mate Fingered In Allege Land Grabbing

A contentious land ownership disputes and indiscriminatory land grabbing accusations against the New Patriotic Party NPP government appointees in the Greater Region has caught the attention of the Ghanaian public as residents in East Legon have revealed that a highly powered member of the ruling party and a Minister of State who is allegedly hiding behind his siblings in an attempt to grab a land from a businessman.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a resident revealed that Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is allegedly at the centre of a 2 plots of land at Okponglo in East Legon behind the Oak plaza Hotel belonging to a businessman.

He has however decided to disregard several invitations from Legon police station rather assigning one Nana Osei Kyerekwie to represent him.

The resident added that document revealed true ownership of the said land at East Legon, raising questions about property rights and the government appointee’s adherence to the rule of law.

According to the resident Dr. Opoku Prempeh, who claims the 2 plots of land belongs to his mother, allegedly deployed services of land guards and National Security (NS) operatives with instruction to deal with caretakers of a two-bedroom apartment built by the businessman on the land.

A recent visit to the site revealed the demolishing of a fence wall on the property.

‘The Minister could have used a lawful and proper means to approach the businessman for settlement but rather chose to use the services of land guards and state machinery to assault workers and caretakers of the land’. The source noted.

According to the resident, when the businessman engaged Mathew Opoku Prempeh in telephone conversation where he accepted that he is the one who invaded the land because it belong to his mother.

The resident further alleged that Hon. Prempeh recently applied for a variation which according to the resident means the land was not for the Minister neither his siblings adding that the businessman completed his variation since 2011 and has stayed on the land till now without any disturbances before the Minister allegedly send his land guards and National Security to beat up the caretakers and the workers.

He called on the Inspector General of Police to as a matter of urgency invite Mathew Opoku Prempeh for questioning as he is playing hide and seek with the police.
