Usif Mohammed Enstooled Development Chief of Afumkrom

The Chiefs and Elders of Nsawam Afumkrom on Thursday, September 12 installed a Businessman and a land administrator Usif Mohammed as Development Chief of Nsawam Afumkrom in the Eastern Region.

Adaway as he is popularly known within the Zongo communities was installed under the stool name Nana Gyan Okugyeaman I at a well organized durbar held on his honor at the forecourt of Afumkrom Palace.

The installation ceremony involved a mix of traditional and Muslim rites (prayers) before he was sworn in and outdooored to the gathering.

The newly installed Nkosuahene of Nsawam Afumkrom is a native of Nima and an influential figure among the youth not only in the Zongo communities but other communities as well.

His contribution towards fostering unity, development and coexistence between the people of Nsawam Afumkrom and other neighboring communities has earned him recognition among the Chiefs and elders in the town.

Earlier in the morning, he was hoisted shoulder-high and paraded through the main street of Nsawam Afumkrom amidst firing of musketry leading a procession, as spectators cheers him up as a sign of acceptance as the newly installed Development Chief.

The new Nkosuahene who underwent traditional rites and other rituals, swore an oath of office to the Omanhene of Nsawam Afumkrom, Berima Answer Affum Okyere I, other sub-chiefs and the people of Nsawam Afumkrom.

Nana Gyan Okugyeaman I pledged to uphold the customs and traditions of Nsawam Afumkrom and to always act justly.

He further pledge to support the construction of a school building in the community adding that education is the key to development in every community hence the need for all hands to be on deck to ensure that schools are provided for the community.

According to him another focus is to establish a Zongo community in Nsawam Afumkrom to enhance rapid development in the area. He said a community cannot witness growth without the Zongos and other tribes.

Establishing a Zongo community he said will come along with the construction of Arabic schools, Mosques, boreholes among others.

He pledged to ensure that the people continue to live in peace and harmony at all times with the aim of moving Nsawam Afumkrom to a higher height.

He used the opportunity to call on the youth not to allow themselves to be use as tools for electoral violence before, during and after the upcoming general elections adding that the development of Ghana is what every Ghanaian is seeking for.

Dignitaries present at the installation ceremony included the Greater Accra Moshie Yadiga Chief, Naaba Ramia, the Manhean Zongo Chief, Sarki Ahmed Abdul Kadiri Ahmed Abdul Kadiri, Greater Accra Peace Ambassador and Nii Armah Kpatalo.

Others include NPP Nasara Wing Coordinator, Hon. Aziz Futa, the Nkosuohene of Sekyikrom, the Accra Grefe Manhene, Nii Tettey Ahinakwar and a host of others.
