Eid al-Adha: We Must Focus On It’s Purpose Not The Celebration – Imam Dalhu Shehu

The Zongo Chief of Tamale and Spiritual leader of Ahlul bayt mission in Northern region, Imam Dalhu Shehu has called on Muslims across the country and the world at large not to focus only on the celebration of Eid al-Adha, but focus more on its purpose.

Muslims across the world will celebrate their annual Eid al-Adha tomorrow which is the period for sacrifices.

During Eid al-Adha, many Muslims make a special effort to pray and listen to a sermon at a mosque.

They also wear new clothes, visit family members and friends and may symbolically sacrifice an animal in an act known as “qurbani.”

This represents the animal that Ibrahim sacrificed in the place of his son.

In a message to Muslims, Dalhu Shehu noted that the purpose of the celebration is when God (Allah) asked Abraham to slaughter his only son, Isaac, and use him as a sacrifice.

“How much are we willing to sacrifice? Can we sacrifice what we love most in the work of Allah,” he asked.

According to him, the call on Abraham was a call to all humanity, teaching humans the virtue to give their precious and valuable items in helping others.

He said, the teachings of Allah should not be taken on the surface, but must be deeply appreciated and in doing so, will mankind get the relevance of all these celebrations.

Dalhu Shehu averred that the purpose of sacrifice which has been ordained by Allah through the Prophets is for all mankind and not only for Muslims nor Christians to observe.

“It is for all humanity and that is how we can create a better society for mankind,” he said.

Dalhu Shehu also took the opportunity to thank government for giving special attention to the Zongo communities across the country.

According to him, the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has indeed proven to have the interest of Muslims at heart and that it behoves on Muslims to appreciate what the government is doing for them by lending their support and embrace all initiatives that have been established for them.

He also commended the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for leading the agenda of transforming the Zongos.

The Muslim leader also urged all to respect the health and safety protocols that have been set to contain and manage the Corona virus pandemic.

He said, as the Muslims celebrate their festivities, they must not lose sight of the protocols, but abide by them in order to stay safe and alive.
