A Tamale based philanthropist, spiritualist and leader of the Kajebi Shrine in the Northern Region, Chief Naatia Salifu said the President must involve Traditionalist and spiritualists in the fight against the deadly and Novel Corona Virus.
Although he commended the President and the Vice President for holding a prayer sessions with the leadership of the Christian Council and the Islamic Community, he said the country must not neglect the traditional foundation on which these two religious sects were created.
Chief Naatia Salifu said, Traditionalists/spiritualists over the years have played significant roles in the peaceful dispensation of the country hence the need for the president to meet the them just as he did with the Christian council and the Muslim community.
In an interview with Chief Naatia Salifu, he noted that last Wednesday’s prayer meeting between the President and the leadership of the Christian Council and a similar one between the Vice President and the Islamic Community on Thursday are commendable.
However, he said, Ghana as a circular nation must not neglect the position of other beliefs and religions, hence traditionalists and spiritualists including Chief Priest, Priestesses and Mallams are also needed in this fight.
He averred that Ghanaians for the past decades, have been familiar with the distinctions of the government when it comes to seeking the face of God and ideas in addressing national issues but that, “it would also be wise if the President also accord the same respect and platform to the Traditional/spiritualists who equally possess much influence on the populace.
“With the role traditional leaders, Priests and Priestesses and Mallams play in our national discourse I believe their prayers and ideas are much needed in times like this,” he said.
He called on government to reinforce the various institutions mandated to fight the COVID-19 outbreak and advise the public to stay safe and adhere to the various directives and measures put in place by the government in these trying times.
