Ga West Chiefs Give Gov’t Two-week Ultimatum To Fix Their Roads Or


Chiefs and people of Oduman, Afuaman, Joma and Nsakina have issued a two-week ultimatum to government to either fix the deplorable roads in the Municipality or face massive demonstration.
The Chiefs and people who are trumpeting a campaign dubbed “No Road No Vote” say the bad nature of the roads in the Municipality had increased the number of pregnancy miscarriages in the communities, reduce development and among others.
The Chiefs and people made this known at a peaceful press conference in Accra when they petitioned the Ga West Municipal Assembly over the deplorable state of their road networks.
The Chiefs and people clad in red , marched to the offices of the Ga West Municipal Assembly and present their petition to the Municipal Chief Executive, MCE Hon. Nii Lamptey Wilkinson.


In an interview with this reporter, Zongo Chief of Manhean, Sarki Abdul-Kardir Ahmed Abdul-Kardir stressed that there will be a massive demonstration if work dose not begin on the deplorable roads on the giving two-week ultimatum.
He added that they as Chiefs, will not prevent the Electoral Commission from bringing their electoral materials but he believes the people within the communities will advise themselves on the election day.
Secretary for the Chiefs and the communities, Emmanuel Quartey, said the bad roads have led to the loss of lives, especially sick persons when being transported to hospitals for treatment.
He noted that the situation left distress commuters from the communities and beyond with no option than to walk from their various communities to Ablekuma junction to board vehicle.
According to him, it takes residents longer time reaching their destination when plying the road.
He added that residents of the various communities are facing hardships and losses due to the pathetic nature and condition of the road network over the past years.


Receiving the petition, the Ga West Municipal Chief Executive, Clement Nii Lamptey Wilkinson, said the roads have been awarded to contractors and assured them that he will introduced the contractor to the chiefs and work will commence soon.
He also assured the Chiefs that he will convey the petition to the President and the Minister for Roads and Highways.
Mr. Wilkinson commended the Chiefs for peaceful press conference and also involving themselves to see the development of the Ga West Municipality.
The Chiefs demanded the fixing of Manhean, Oduman, Afuaman, Joma and Nsakina roads respectively.
